Thursday, 27 October - Feast of St. Otterman, Monk Saturday, 29 October - Feast of St. Colman, Bishop of Kilmacduagh Mission Sunday: Witness to the Faith The Church in Ireland has produced many missionary martyrs in the 20th century. The late Pope prayed that the celebration of their lives this Mission Sunday 'would draw numerous young men and women to tread the path of heroic fidelity.' People are asked to be as generous as possible in the Propagation of the Faith Collection today which will be sent in its entirety to the Missions to support current missionaries in their Witness to the Faith. Altar List of the Dead: Envelopes and forms for the Altar List of the Dead for the coming year are on the table at the back of the Church. Please return them with your offering to the box at the Altar Rails. The Irish Catholic: The Editor of the 'Irish Catholic', Garry O'Sullivan writes to tell us that they in The Irish Catholic feel that there really is something astir on a grassroots level in the Church in Ireland. The recent return of groups of buoyant young people from World Youth Day in Cologne suggests that there is much life and hope yet in our Church. "We in The Irish Catholic want to play our part; it is easy to sit on the sidelines and complain about the way things should be or who should be doing what. So we're putting our money/skills/effort where our mouth is and are devoting two pages of the paper every week to religious education aimed at mostly secondary school children. We're devoting extra pages to Irish news in October carrying more Irish news than any other Catholic paper on sale in the country. And there are many other initiatives planned and underway which you will notice as the weeks go by. I'm hoping that our content will go some way to aiding your work and the work of evangelisation that is going on in parishes up and down the country. As Catholic laity, we need to engage with our Church and take responsibility we cant continue to expect priests to do everything for us." 'Miracles of the Eucharist' a video presentation and talk by Fr. Eamonn McCarthy on 'The Mass The Miracle' will take place in St. Patrick's Parish Centre, Monkstown on Wednesday, 26 October 8.00 9.30 p.m. There will be refreshments and an opportunity for discussion. Organised by the Legion of Mary. Cleaners Required: Your Church is nice and clean! Could you spare an hour on Friday from 7.30 8.30 p.m. to help us keep it like this? Men or women welcome. Sale of Work for Fr Shay Cullen: The sale of work and additional donations brought the grand total of €5,110 to aid Fr. Shay Cullen's Mission in the Phillipines. A most sincere thank you to all who made this happen - Elizabeth Haskins. |
