Thought for Today

Welcome to

Saint Michael's Church

Parish of Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, Ireland.

St Michael The Archangel
Main Church Entrance

The Parish, covering the Town and surrounding area, was constituted from the ancient Parish of Loughlinstown in 1829.  The church itself began as a modest one and was completed in 1835 by our first parish priest Canon Sheridan.

The church was further enhanced during the pastorship of Canon McCabe who later became Cardinal Archbishop of Dublin.  Following the disastrous fire, which destroyed the church in 1965, the present church was rebuilt, blessed and opened in October 1973 under the guidance of Msgr. Patrick Boylan, P.P.

In recent times the magnificent spire, standing 220ft tall and having survived the great fire in 1965, has undergone major restoration and refurbishment.

This work was completed in December 2005 under the watch of  Fr. Patrick J. Mangan, PP to coincide with the 175th Anniversary of the Constitution of the Parish.

You may wish to refer to our Parish History section for more information.
